MaterialThunder-Struck Wood

A one-of-a-kind, deeply textured Wushi pendant made to carry the intention ‘all is well’ without crowding the surface with symbols.

Origin & Story

The rounded rectangular Wushi form uses emptiness as its design language. In Chinese, wu shi can suggest both an uncarved plaque and the wish that nothing troublesome occurs. Here the surface keeps its hammered texture, original variations and dark braided cord rather than being polished into uniformity.

Dao Origin identifies the material as thunderstruck wood. In Daoist and folk contexts, lightning-marked timber is associated with concentrated yang energy, resilience and the conversion of disruption into strength. The object’s value lies equally in its singular grain and in the story the wearer chooses to carry.

Traditional Meaning & Intention

The piece may be worn with intentions of calm, protection, fewer obstacles and a more stable personal presence. Its uninscribed face keeps those intentions open rather than prescribing one fixed promise.

  • ‘All is well’ / freedom from unnecessary trouble
  • Resilience and a grounded personal presence
  • Traditional protection intention
  • A singular collector’s wood object

Temple Ritual & Blessing

Before release, this object was placed on a Daoist temple altar for a period and included in a blessing rite conducted by Daoist priests. For Dao Origin, that rite is part of the object’s provenance: a deliberate preparation that joins material, craft and intention.

Materials & Dimensions

This piece is carved from solid natural heartwood selected from a tree that had been struck by lightning. It is genuine wood—not resin, plastic or an engineered wood composite. Heartwood is the dense inner section of the tree, chosen for its close grain and material integrity. Because colour, grain direction, growth marks and tonal depth occur naturally, no two finished pieces will be identical; these variations are part of the material rather than defects.

  • Material: natural thunderstruck wood, as recorded by Dao Origin
  • Form: rounded Wushi plaque with hammered texture
  • Availability: one piece / one-of-a-kind listing
  • Natural bark, grain, colour and marks are part of the individual piece
