A hand-finished Daoist pendant that brings celestial orientation, Heaven–Earth balance and thunderstruck jujube wood into one composed form.

Origin & Story

The pendant combines four connected ideas: the South Dipper, the North Dipper, the Qian–Kun ring and yin–yang. Dipper constellations occupy an important place in Daoist celestial imagery, while Qian and Kun name the complementary forces of Heaven and Earth in classical Chinese cosmology.

Rather than treating these motifs as decoration, the design arranges them as a compact map: sky and earth, movement and stillness, outward direction and inward steadiness. The dense, dark grain of thunderstruck jujube wood gives that cosmological structure a tactile daily form.

In Daoist and Chinese folk tradition, the Dippers are associated with celestial order, direction and the rhythms of life. Temple Ritual & Blessing

Before release, this object was placed on a Daoist temple altar for a period and included in a blessing rite conducted by Daoist priests. For Dao Origin, that rite is part of the object’s provenance: a deliberate preparation that joins material, craft and intention.

Materials & Dimensions

This piece is carved from solid natural heartwood selected from a tree that had been struck by lightning. It is genuine wood—not resin, plastic or an engineered wood composite. Heartwood is the dense inner section of the tree, chosen for its close grain and material integrity. Because colour, grain direction, growth marks and tonal depth occur naturally, no two finished pieces will be identical; these variations are part of the material rather than defects.
